Curriculum and Instruction Projects

As a teacher, I am constantly trying to find new ways to communicate effective lessons which are relevant and help engage students to think more about the subject. While I try to avoid lecturing over PowerPoints too much, I do use them along with handouts and worksheets which I often adapt from other teachers and resources and redesign for my own use. I feel that visual design is often neglected by teachers, but is extremely importantly not only for clarity, but also in generating interest and engagement with the topic at hand. PowerPoint: "The Worlds of Islam, ca. 600-1500"

This PowerPoint demonstrates my design and presentation abilities. It is used as a primer for teaching Islam, with special focus on the Abbasid Empire.

Handout: Industrial Era Global Migrations Worksheet (PDF)

This handout demonstrates my ability to "walk" learners through a lesson. The topic in this case is that of global migrations, especially in the industrial era. It is used in conjunction with a greater overall discussion of the effects of the Industrial Revolution in my AP World History class.

Handout: Key Concept Study Guide

This study guide demonstrates my ability to provide learners with clear expectations and model how to connect larger concepts with smaller examples of historical evidence. I use these handouts to demonstrate the "how" of answering larger over-arching questions and provide students with a visual aide of major classroom topics.
